Abraham Lincoln: The Last Best Hope

In preparation for the Lincoln Bicentennial, beginning in 2008, Documents on Wheels launched LincolnArchives.us on February 12, 2006. The website is dedicated to the study of the Lincoln Administration. Records from the National Archives and from collections in the Manuscripts Division at the Library of Congress are being digitized and placed online. In addition to these documents, maps, political cartoons, newspapers, contemporary biographies, are included to provide a rich resource for studying Lincoln and the nation from 1859-1865.

This workshop focuses on the Lincoln Administration years. A notebook with 12 documents which represent major events during the Lincoln years will be examined. We will discuss how educators can incorporate these documents into the curriculum in preparation for the upcoming bicentennial. In some areas, in partnership with state universities in the area, scholars will provide insight into specific topics of the Lincoln Administration. Resources from the Bill of Rights Institute will investigate Constitutional issues.
